Sony A7S III Predictions
The Sony A7s III announcement is quickly approaching, and many are in anticipation. The many predictions aside, I wanted to compile my own list of 10 essential things that would make the Sony a7s III a very competitive option in the realm of mirrorless video shooters.
10 Features the Sony A7S III Needs:
1. BETTER Sensor
16-18 Megapixel Full-Frame Stacked BSC-CMOS Sensor
In order to dominate in lowlight, I wouldn't predict a massive jump in megapixels, in order to make them larger, so they can capture as much light as possible.
2. Better (Video) Image Quality
10 Bit 4:2:2 video quality
3. More Video Quality Options
DCI 4K at 30p, 24p
UHD 4K at 60p, 30p, 24p (Downsampled from 6K)
1080 at 240p, 120p, 60p,30p, 24p
It would be nice to have both DCI 4K, as well as UHD 4K, but honestly higher frame rates at 1080 would be something to look forward to as well.
4. Better Video codec
Many already shoot RAW images. Shooting RAW video would work wonders, especially when grading in post production.
5. Dual SD UHS II memory card slots
Dual card slots is a must. UHS II card slots would speed up the write time of 4K footage at 60p, and 1080 at 240p.
6. Better Battery Life
This is a given....
7. Better Native ISO Range
From 100 - 204800
Having a stacked BSI sensor should equate to better processing at higher ISOs.
8. Improved Autofocus
The addition of Phase Detection AF in the A7s Line
Using contrast detection AF for video is a pain. Hopefully the addition of phase detect AF would make video focusing as sweet as it is on the Sony A7 III.
9. Improved IBIS
10. Timelapse mode
No more Play Memories App. We are beginning to get use to it, but it would be nice to have a Timelapse Mode built into the camera.
We are looming upon an announcment, and I'm making this in hopes to get a few things right. What do you guys think? Did I leave any features out? What would you like to see in the Sony's upcoming A7S III. Leave your comments below.
